Know which lot is where.
Momentum keeps the lot number and expiry date on the stock from receiving to sale, by location, so you can see what you hold, where it sits and what it cost.
Lot control usually lives in a spreadsheet beside the till: the lot is written down at receiving and lost by the time stock moves between stores. Momentum records the lot at receiving and keeps it attached through transfers, counts, sales and write-offs, on the same records as the books.
Record the lot at receiving
Enter the lot number, batch and expiry date when stock arrives. Each lot is held by location, with its own quantity and cost.
Lots stay attached when stock moves
Transfers move stock between locations through requested, approved, dispatched, in transit and received. Missing units must be returned or written off, with a reason.
Sell the earliest expiry first
Picking follows first expiry, first out (FEFO), so the lot nearest its date sells before newer stock. Costing is separate: choose FIFO, LIFO or weighted average.
See the cost of lots about to expire
The expiry report shows what is about to expire and what it cost, branch by branch, while there is still time to discount it or move it.
Counts and write-offs that name the lot
Several people count one location at once, offline too. A supervisor reviews and posts, and every difference is valued. Expired stock is written off overnight.
An audit trail on every movement
Every sale, receipt, transfer and write-off posts balanced double-entry journals per location, and every change is kept on a hash-chained audit log.
What Momentum is not
Momentum is a retail and wholesale system. It is not a manufacturing or production system, so it does not build lots from raw materials. It does not manage regulatory reporting or send recall notices. It has no online store, and card payments run on your existing terminal.
Lot tracking software records which lot of a product you hold, where it is and when it expires. In Momentum, stock is held by lot number and expiry date, by location.
