How does Momentum keep selling when the internet goes down?

Each till keeps a local copy of what it needs to sell: products, prices, stock and customers. Sales are saved on the device and sync in the background as soon as the connection returns, so a bad connection never becomes a closed store.

What happens if the connection drops in the middle of a sale?

The sale finishes on the device. Every sale carries its own ID, so if it's sent more than once while the till reconnects, it is still recorded once. No duplicate sales and no double stock movements.

Does everything work offline?

Selling does: ringing up items, taking payment and printing receipts. Anything that needs the server, such as Momentum AI or up-to-date figures from your other locations, catches up as soon as you're back online.

Do you charge per user or per device?

Neither. Momentum is priced per location, and every plan includes unlimited users. Starter includes up to 2 registers; Growth and Enterprise include unlimited registers.

What plans are there?

Starter for a single location, Growth for up to 5 locations, and Enterprise for larger operations, priced to fit. Prices in US or Canadian dollars, monthly or annual, are on the pricing page. A one-time setup and data migration fee applies per location.

How does per-location pricing work in practice?

Your bill grows when you open a location, not when you hire. Adding a seasonal cashier, a new manager or reporting access for your accountant costs nothing extra.

Can Momentum replace my accounting software?

For many businesses, yes. Momentum keeps double-entry books that post themselves from sales, purchases, transfers and payments, with a chart of accounts, journal entries, invoices, bills, credit memos, and reports such as profit and loss, balance sheet and trial balance. Check anything specific to your filings with your accountant.

What does tamper-evident mean?

Momentum's financial and audit logs are hash-chained: each entry is SHA-256 hashed together with the hash of the entry before it. Changing a past entry changes its hash and breaks the chain from that point, so an edit to history is detectable rather than invisible.

Can I control what each person is allowed to do?

Yes. Build roles from 200+ individual permissions, assign staff to the locations they work at, and require permission for sensitive actions such as selling below cost or going over a customer's credit limit.

How is my data protected?

Access is controlled by roles and permissions, a new device can't sign in until it's approved with a code, and every change is logged with the old value, the new value and who made it.

Does Momentum track batches and expiry dates?

Yes. Stock can be tracked by batch, with lot numbers and manufacture and expiry dates. You see the cost at risk of expiring, location by location, and choose whether stock is drawn first in first out, last in first out, or first to expire first out.

Which costing methods are supported?

FIFO, LIFO and weighted average, chosen for your company. Cost of goods sold follows the method you choose, and costing is tracked per batch where batches are used.

How does demand forecasting work?

It works from your own sales, not an AI prediction. Pick a usage window and Momentum suggests quantities for a purchase order or transfer, by item and location, from what sold, what's in stock and what you last ordered. The Demand Forecast report shows the same picture. Nothing is ordered until you review and submit it.

Can several people count stock at once?

Yes. A stock count can be split across a team. Every difference is valued and has a name next to it, so you can see what the count found and who found it.

Can stock move between locations?

Yes. A transfer is requested, approved, dispatched and received, and each step is logged with who did it and when. Units that go missing on the way must be returned or written off, so nothing disappears quietly.

Can I sell wholesale and retail from one system?

Yes. Items can carry a wholesale price alongside retail, customers can have credit limits and payment terms such as Net 30, and invoices and sales orders draw from the same stock as your tills.

Add a store or warehouse from settings and it joins your stock, books and reports straight away. Then assign staff and connect its hardware.

You set a default tax rate, and each item can use it, be tax-exempt, or carry its own rate. Momentum doesn't look rates up by province for you, so confirm the rates you enter with your accountant.
